Hi. My name is Joe Hay. My wife Wendy and I together own and operate Haystack Fishing. We have over 25 years experience dory fishing out of Pacific City, Oregon. Together since our first launch in May 1997 we have over 10,000+ hours on the Pacific Ocean and led over 2500+ successful trips since our first launch right off the beaches of Pacific City.

Early morning surf launched dory fishing for salmon in the best spots off the coast of Cape Kiwanda in Pacific City, Oregon.
First light, best bite.
During the guided trip we catch crab and if time allows we bottom fish too. Life jackets are provided before surf launch.
This includes the cleaning, filleting, weighing, and vacuum sealing of the fish caught as well as the cleaning and cooking of the crab. Ice is provided. Bring a cooler!

BOTTOM FISHING + CRABBING
Morning surf launched dory bottom fishing for a variety of fish.
This can include a number of species of rockfish, ling cod, and an occasional halibut. There are many types of Pacific Ocean, deep sea, bottom fish.
Along with the fish you catch we have crab pots that we pull for crabbing. Life jackets are provided before surf launch.
This includes the cleaning, filleting, weighing, and vacuum sealing of the fish caught as well as the cleaning and cooking of the crab. Ice is provided. Bring a cooler!

CRABBING ONLY
We provide a custom crabbing trip off the coast of Cape Kiwanda in the Pacific Ocean, using our surf launched dory boat.
We go along the stunning coast line to pots already in the water. Life jackets are provided before surf launch.
This includes the cleaning, cooking, and bagging of the crab. Ice is provided. Bring a cooler!

CUSTOM TRIP
The ultimate trip we offer, is a custom private party trip.
You can book the whole boat for from 1 to 6 people.
We tailor the trip to your specific needs and this includes all of our other services, such as cooking of crab, and filleting and vacuum sealing the fish. As with our other trips, Bring a Cooler! We also can catch and release if this is your desire.

We went salmon fishing and crabbing with Haystack Fishing. Wow! Can't say enough good things! Captain Joe has this down to a tee! What fun launching and landing on the beach. An exeperience not to be missed! Captain Joe has over 25 years experience and knows how to catch!! We had our limit for crab and more than enough Coho and Chinook Salmon. One of the best parts is hanging in his beautiful back yard watching eagles, blue heron and wildlife while his very adept crew filet and vaccum pack your fish and clean and steam your crab. Highly recommend for an overall wonderful experience and great fish/crab.

Fantastic Dorey fishing experience! Joe and Wendy run an excellent and professional outfit. I was lucky enough to get to tag along for a friends bucket list Dorey Fishing trip and we were recommended using Haystack. So glad we took the advice. Wendy runs the office and was excellent with communication and our day on the water was AWESOME! We were taking 6' to 8' swells due to the weather and Joe managed them with ease and we still limited out all in under 2 hours. Joe is also an absolute treat to get to experience being your captain! Haystack Fishing is a must if you are looking for the Dorey fishing trip of your life.

My friend and I took our 3 boys fishing this past week with Joe and had an incredible experience. He was knowledgeable, fun, and was great with the kids. He quickly put us on the fish and crab!!! We limited out on rock fish, caught 2 nice ling cod and about 2 dozen crab. Overall, it was a great trip!! Definitely will be back and won’t even consider fishing with anyone else! Thanks Cpt Joe!!

This was on the boys bucket list of fishing trip to do. Joe and Wendy took care of everyone, and enjoy the afternoon at home while they clean and packaged their catch of the dat. It was an amazing day, and they plan on coming back. Thank you Captain Joe and the crew for a job well done.

I took my 2 teenagers on a charter with Haystack Fishing last weekend. It was the highlight of our 6 day trip to Pacific City. Captain Joe was friendly, funny, and patient with us as he taught us how to fish. We caught our rockfish and crab limits, plus 4 ling cod. Joe's wife, Wendy, was also really great, as they cleaned/cooked our crab, and filleted/vacuum packed our fish. The launching and landing is a unique experience, and Captain Joe was very competent. I would highly recommend this excursion.

The moment you step on Captain Joe's boat the adventure begins. It is an exciting experience to launch and land on the beach. I have been ocean fishing all over the U.S. and internationally and this was my favorite. We hit our limits on bass, ling and crab. Captain Joe has a great group of employees taking care of the customers. The boat was in perfect order, our fish were cleaned and vacuum sealed, crab was steamed and packaged, and everyone was so happy and polite. There are so many more things I could write. My partner received this trip as a birthday present from a friend that was not able to join, so I was able to go in his stead. We had such a good time with Captain Joe! Both he and Wendy are very personable and welcoming. After limiting on Rock Fish and Crab, we got to reel in a salmon. After a fantastic morning on the water, we got to hang in their beautiful backyard around a fire pit and eat the super tasty crab straight out of the steamer pot while they filleted and vacuum-packed our catch. It can't get any better than that!

Captain Joe is the best, we had such a fun and SUCCESSFUL fishing trip. I’ve never met someone so cheerful at 5:30 am. My cheeks are still sore from smiling so much. We saw several grey whales as an added special treat, breaching around us. I caught several fish, learned so much, and it was the best feeling yelling “FISH ON!!!” I can’t wait to get back on that boat!!! The fresh crab was a GAME CHANGER!!
